STANDING FIRM

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 CORINTHIANS 15:58

This verse assumes that the very thing you are doing is for the Lord. That is, you are doing what God wants you to be doing. I am not sure that in all that we do or say we are wholly doing what God wants. On occasions we are doing what we want and not what God has asked us to do.
If we are doing what God has called us to then we should have no problems standing firm. We must however, understand, that if we are doing God’s bidding then Satan, who is totally opposed to God’s work, will do everything in his power to try and stop us from being obedient to God.
If I know that I know God has called me to do what I am doing, then I believe that it is easy for me to stand firm. It is only when I doubt that what I am doing is actually God’s work that my faith will start to waver. One thing that the devil does is he says that the results you see from what you are doing are not much, if any, therefore this project is not really what God wants you to be about.
But it is never about the results. We have no idea as to what and how God is working at any one time. I am sure that the person who allowed a young man to drive a truck to a meeting had no idea that God was about to turn the life of that young man around and he would become a very great evangelist. He just wanted to give the young man the opportunity to hear the Word of God and possibly be saved. He could have given up when the man said no. But, he persisted and incited him to go by offering him a chance to drive a truck. He did not give up, he stood firm, and the results are encouraging.
We should always be sure that what we are doing is exactly what God is requiring of us now. Then when the devil comes and questions our motives or results we can stand firm, because we know that what we do is not in vain and the results will be there in the end.
